The Joy of Upgrading

Submitted by Kieran on Jan 24, 2011

I decided that i would upgrade this blog tonight to Drupal 7. Wish I hadn't started it to be honest. What was supposed to be a relatively easy thing to do has taken me almost 4 hours and it's still not back on par with the old version. Why? Well, a few things which I expected and a few I didn't. Firstly on D7 you should get an administration bar across the top of your site when you are logged in. I get the bar, but no options!! Hello, how am I supposed to get to my administration pages? Secondly, the WYSIWYG editor which I use (CKEditor) doesn't seem to want to play nicely at the moment, even though it says it should work.

The only problem which I was expecting and is there for me is my theme which I need to rebuild, so thats a job for the weekend. One of the things which I was looking at as a good feature is being able to install modules from the site itself. But as yet i've not managed to get it working. It seems that you have to have your own FTP server to get it working. This is something else I'll have to try and get my head around.

As I go through this journey I'll be updating this post with all the fun problems I have found in the GIANT UPGRADE!!!
