Treasure Hunt for the 21st Century
Aside from my work and computers there isn't really that much that I do. I sometimes read, but not very often. I've been on the lookout for something fun to do and which I could do with Sarah during spare time. Well I found something, thanks to one of my mates Dave. We were out drinking on Christmas Eve when he told me about this new thing he and his daughter were upto called Geocaching. I looked blank at him until he explained it.
Its like a treasure hunt for geeks. Instead of physical map and instructions to look at, you go to a website - geocaching.com and find a set of coordinates then set off to find the hidden cache. Generally there isn't anything there, just a logbook which you sign to say you have been there and there is no prize, just bragging rights on the website where you log your finds for other members to see. The great thing about this is that there are thousands of these hidden caches all over the place. If you don't like to go into the country to find there, there are loads hidden in town centres, for you to find. And its a real challenge too. One of these caches which we went out looking for was a small pot about the size of a pen top. it was painted the same colour as where it was hidden and I looked straight at it for a while before I realised it was what I was looking for.
We are really getting into this and have been out the last 2 days looking for them. So we have a new hobby now which actually takes us out of the house and not sitting in front of our computers all the time.
Thanks Dave!
