Using my Blog for Work

Submitted by Kieran on Apr 05, 2011

As part of my job I have to create websites for external bodies who we collaborate with.  One that I'm working with in the near future need quite a few things different to normal quick websites that I've been asked to do for other clients.  I'm really looking forward to this project which will probably be starting sometime in June.  But first I need to do a lot of testing and trial and error.

My first thought was to create a dummy site and start playing with that.  As I said, this was my first thought.  But then it hit me.  Since upgrading to Drupal 7 I've never really been happy with how this blog looks; I've just never really had the time to work on it with all the other things I have going on my life and work.  So I'm going to use this blog as my "dummy site".  There is already content, taxonomy, nodes etc.  The only thing I need is to add a few new users.  This will save me so much time.  Before people say to me that I could use the drupal dev module to create content, the problem with that is it creates incoherent text which isn't what i need.

So over the next month or two this site WILL change, new features will be added, it WILL break down at some point, but by the end of it I will have learnt more about Drupal and have an overhauled website.  Apologies in advance for all these things but please stay with me as I'll be blogging about what is going on with my site and any tips and problems that I encounter.
